I'd have to watch the two side by side to know all what they edited out, but distinctly remember when I watching The Blind Banker that the scene were John shows Sherlock the photo he'd taken of the graffiti was edited it (it faded out/scene changed just after they came back saw it painted black). I have no idea why PBS edited stuff out (they'd put it in a large enough time slot and it was commercial free) but yes, the american version is edited.
The DVD/Blu Ray version is the original though, so if you can't find it online you can always hunt that down.
